A Surprising Visitor
I am at home with my villain parents in this chapter. We are eating dinner when we hear a knock on the door. This is not common because we don’t get many visitors. My parents look worried. They tell me to go to my room, but I hide and listen.
Another villain is the guest. The person is wearing a mask and is talking to my parents in a different voice. They informed my parents that one of their friends had been captured by a hero. This is pretty bad news. My parents and the visitor had a long conversation about what to do.
Making a Plan
After too much talk, my parents decided to assist their friend. This, however, means we have to vacate our place. It’s no longer safe here. My parents urged me to pack only what I could carry. We need to move quickly and quietly.
As I put away my things, I think of all the previous times we have had to evacuate. The positive aspect of being brought up by villains is that we can’t set down our roots in a single place. However, this time feels unique. The danger is closer, so I observe my parents being more worried than usual.
Our New Hideout
We head off at night to our destination. It’s a small cabin deep into the woods. It’s old-fashioned and slightly untidy but is away from other humans. Thus, we should be safe here until my parents get another idea.
The cabin has a fireplace to keep us warm, and the nearby stream from which we get the water. It reminds me of the stories of the heroes that hide in the forest. It’s ironic how I’m now in the opposite situation- hiding from heroes, not being one.
Learning New Skills
My parents instruct me with the new skills while I am at the cabin. They demonstrate to me how to set up a trap and how to walk without drawing a legible path. They claim that these are the villain’s skills, but they are instructing me to ensure my safety.
Besides that, I also practice using my powers. Yes, I have powers! Unlike my parents’, they are still not that sturdy; however, they are developing. I’m helping my mom learn to control them better. Given my age, I was instructed to stay safe without my parents’ assistance.
The Rescue Plan
My parents spend a lot of time together, pondering their plan to save their friend. They have maps spread out on the table, and they sit and talk for hours. From time to time, some other villains also come to the cabin to give them advice.
Doubts and Questions
One night, I overheard my parents talking when they believed I was asleep. They seemed tense about the situation ahead, contemplating whether they were really doing the right thing by leading such a life with me.
I, for the first time, get started to think deeply about my life. Am I supposed to be bad if I’m raised as a villain? What would my life be like if my parents weren’t villains? These thoughts keep me awake at night.
The Rescue Mission
At last, my parents revealed that it was time for their plan. They informed me that they would be gone for three days. They solve the problem of another villain staying at the cabin with me while they are away.
I harbored intense fears as my parents got ready to leave. What if something goes wrong? What if they don’t come back? My mom calmed me and assured me that everything would be okay. She says that they have gone through many difficulties before this, but they always come out on top.
Waiting and Worrying
The days are lingering while my parents are away. I enjoy my time by practicing my skills and wandering through the woods that surround the cabin. Nevertheless, I cannot stop worrying about my parents.
The villain who is with me takes charge to cheer me up. However, I do feel his worry too. I can’t help but wonder whether all villains are afraid of each other similarly.
A Happy Return
Just when I am beginning to lose hope, I hear familiar voices from outside. Mom and Dad are coming, oh my goodness! And they’ve also brought their friend with them. Despite their tired expressions, they all look happy.
My parents’ embrace is tight, and they tell me how glorious I am for my courageous act. In fact, their plan was a complete success. Undetected, they saved their friend.
Thinking About the Future
This chapter concludes with me alternating between good and bad feelings. On the one hand, I bask in the knowledge that my parents are alive and well, having accomplished their mission of helping out a friend. On the other hand, I fear for the unknown shortly.
Do we have to pull out yet again? Will we have to carry out more perilous missions? And the question of my personal future- will fighting the hero world be the only thing left for me? I am certain about one thing and it is the fact that our family is very strong. We have been through many hardships and have always come out of them stronger together.
Life as a Villain’s Child
Being raised by villains is not a piece of cake. It involves being always on the run, living under constant surveillance, and keeping an eye for the heroes. Nevertheless, it is as interesting as it is challenging. What I gain are things that most kids are disadvantaged for not to experience.
Sometimes I think about what it would be like to live a normal life. Going to school, having friends who are not villains, and not worrying about heroes catching us sound like a perfect life, right? Yet, when I look at my parents, I see their strong bond. They assist each other and stick to their principles by doing good and being their friends in difficult times, even when the rest of the world calls them villains.
